Thank you for supporting the Chiefs Basketball Team with the Disability Grant funding award, which enabled our athletes to attend the Special Olympics Summer of Sport Basketball Competition held in Manchester from 5–8 August 2022.
Thanks to your generosity, we were able to take two basketball squads, competing in different divisions, to represent the East Region at this prestigious event. The funding helped us hire a minibus to transport all athletes and coaches to Manchester and secure accommodation for the duration of the competition.
Your grant ensured that every athlete had the opportunity to participate, regardless of their financial circumstances. This is particularly important within Special Olympics, where inclusivity and equal access are at the heart of everything we do. Without this support, some athletes may have been unable to attend.
The event provided our athletes with much more than just the opportunity to compete. It allowed them to build friendships, develop teamwork and communication skills, increase their confidence and independence, and experience the pride of representing their region at a national competition. For many, it was a memorable and life-changing experience.
We are extremely grateful for your support, which helped make this opportunity possible and enabled our athletes to enjoy the true values of Special Olympics. Inclusion, friendship, respect, determination and joy.
