Written by Alison aka Betty’s Mum.
It has been a little while since our last update. Betty has now switched focus from training to competing. We wanted to share her Outdoor Season (April – September) progress to date.
JNOC
Junior National Outdoor Championships 2023 – Under 14 Recurve
Metric IV – 12th/19 Score 1126 Classification B1
Bristol IV – 13th/24 Score 1055 Classification B1
Junior National Outdoor Championships 2024 – Under 15 Recurve
Metric III – 3rd/14 Score 1208 Classification GMB
Bristol III – 3rd/17 Score 1159 Classification GMB
Betty is still only 13. Her age category and bow style have the second highest number of entrants making it a very competitive field.
JNOC 2023 – Betty had been shooting 11 months apx. JNOC 2024 – National Age Group coaching from October 2023.
Her scores and classification (ordered: A3/A2/A1/B3/B2/B1/MB/GMB/EMB) have improved despite the increased distance associated with the age appropriate rounds. AGB, “Master Bowman level is the first award in this tier, moving up to Grand Master Bowman and, finally, to Elite Master Bowman. This final level represents scores which would typically be competitive at international events. While these scores are achievable, doing so consistently across a season is a huge achievement and only a small number of archers in each category will likely be able to do so in a given year.”
Betty has just claimed her GMB classification and is awaiting ratification.
JAS
Junior Archery Series 2024 – Under 15 Recurve
Lilleshall – 3rd/14 Score 598 Head2Head 6th
Woking – 4th/14 Score 594 Head2Head 4th
York – 2nd/13 Score 624 Head2Head 4th
Betty did not compete at Ayr due to travel costs.
This is the first season Betty has entered Head 2 Head format competitions, it being the first year of the age-appropriate round. Currently, she is in 4th place on the tour standings. Stage 5 – Wallingford, is in August, after which she hopes to qualify for the invitation only final.
Away from the National level competitions:
ECCA UKRS Target Championships – Gold
Middlesex WRS – Gold
Southern Counties Archery Society Youth Tour – joint 1st /12 (The final will be held 29th Sept.)
Thank you so much for your grant. Hopefully you can see the continued impact your support has had on Betty’s: physical and mental development, the progress she has made so far this competition season, not forgetting her continuous enjoyment. These results are because of her being able to attend the Archery GB National Age Group Coaching Sessions.
THANK YOU! We really could not have done this without you!
